My name is Görgen Gustafsson and our company is called Sydplantor AB. I’m not very good at English but I’ll do my best.
We started Sydplantor in 1987 so we’ve been around for a while. At the beginning we were three partners but now it’s me and my son who run the company. Sydplantor is a private forest nursery in southern Sweden. We produce a smaller part of the plants in Sweden, mainly pine and spruce, but the majority we grow in Germany, the Baltic states and Finland. We also import plants from, for example, Norway and Denmark.
We deliver about 7 million plants per year to southern Sweden. Our customers range from smaller private forest owners to larger forestry companies and sawmills.
Our range is quite complete when it comes to different tree species, plant varieties, sizes and provenances.
The most common tree species are pine and spruce but we also have some odd conifers such as sitka, larch, Douglas fir and more. When it comes to broad-leaved trees, we have birch, oak, beech, cloudberry, linden, maple, but also some fast-growing trees such as poplar and hybrid aspen. More and more forest owners want to plant tree species that grow quickly for a shorter rotation period but also to be able to earn money in the future for carbon storage.
It is important for the future that we are involved in developing our range so that we can provide the latest and best material that grows well and has a high quality.
When it comes to pine and spruce, we are involved in a development program to produce plantations with more fast-growing forest. We also have our own plantations of birch and larch to ensure that we have the best seed material available in Sweden. Some of the material is also suitable for use in the Baltic states.
We also do forest management such as planting, clearing and game treatment.
Our company is growing and we need to hire more employees for the forest department. It is difficult to get enough qualified labor in Sweden, so we are looking for people in the Baltic states, Poland, Romania and other countries who have experience in clearing and planting in the forest.
If you have any tips on how we can get personnel with such experience, we are interested in a contact.
We care about our employees and can offer good conditions in terms of salary, housing, etc.
We may also be interested in importing products from the Baltic states that fit into our company. This could be, for example, garden and park plants, impregnated poles, building materials, fertilizer, bedding for stables or other products related to forestry, agriculture and gardening.
