INFORMATION ABOUT STARTING A BUSINESS IN SWEDEN AS A FOREIGNER 💭
As a foreigner, finding all the necessary information about starting a business in Sweden can be quite challenging. For example, what the required number of board members or the capital requirements are.
Thankfully, Swedish society and industry is highly international and technology oriented. Sweden has no regulations discriminating foreign investors and shareholders may reside in any country.
Foreign companies looking to set up a business in Sweden usually opt for one of two primary structures:
- a subsidiary, which is a limited liability company (aktiebolag),
- or a branch (filial).
Both a private limited liability company and a branch must be registered at the Swedish Companies Registration Office (Bolagsverket) and the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). Both of the structures must adhere to Swedish bookkeeping regulations and, based on specific criteria, may need to appoint an auditor. The minimum capital requirement for starting an Aktiebolag is SEK 25,000, while there is no capital requirement for starting a branch.
Business Sweden has put together a guide, packed with useful information about which business structure will work best for you, and useful contacts to set up your business. Find more information about starting a business in Sweden here: Business Sweden Guide
